    • i am physically disabled + autistic. i am a mobility aid user. i am passionate about disability justice and post about it a lot.
    • my special interests include frankenstein + mary shelley, thanatology, political theory, and horror.
    • other miscellaneous topics i probably post about a lot include fashion, goth + alt music, art + literary history, kaiju film, animals + misc cute things, appalachia, so on and so on. sorry for putting truman capote on your dash etc
    • if i see someone being racist, ableist, transmisogynistic, transphobic, homophobic, etc, it goes without saying that i will block. there are some intracommunity issues i specifically want to be clear about my stances on in particular however:
    • i will not tolerate or entertain ableism towards autistic people with higher support needs, intellectual disabilities, or other highly stigmatized comorbidities or traits from other autistic people (or other neurodivergent people, period) on my blog.
    • i will not tolerate or entertain ableism from neurodivergent people without physical disability towards physically disabled people on my blog, including attempts to villainize physically disabled people for having spaces for themselves within our community.
    • i will not tolerate or entertain transmisogyny from other members of the trans community on my blog, especially including insidious attempts to paint transfemininity as more “accepted” or privileged due to hypervisibility.

The way people are talking about Musk's Neuralink FDA trial approval is so frustrating to me. "Oh haha, Musk fanboys are going to get their brains fried!" But that's.... that's just not how FDA trials work.

They're not things that perfectly healthy people can sign up for just for fun. FDA drug/medical device trials are for specific health conditions - I'm having a hard time finding which exact conditions Neuralink is approved to have trials for, but all I can see is they intend to treat neurological conditions in general.

When you look at people who sign up for trials though it's pretty much just people who are absolutely desperate for a new treatment because what's available isn't working for them - or they have no medical insurance (medical trials usually cover not only the cost of the trial but the continued treatment with the trial drug for X months/years after) and people just desperate for money (many trials offer financial compensation).

And it's like.... Sure maybe a handful of those people might be Musk bros, but they aren't going to make up the bulk of the ones killed and maimed by this. It's going to be disabled people in desperate situations, I'm sure many of whom have no idea or only a vague idea of who Musk is.

That’s actually a brilliant idea, even from a strict effectiveness standpoint.

    Pity they got shut down.

    Some examples:

Just goes to show how much data facebook/insta collect about you that gets sent to advertisers. Also facebook responded by effectively saying ‘yes we collect the data but we dont allow advertisers to say that they’re using this data’ after trying to accuse Signal of pulling a ‘PR stunt’. Facebook is so scummy.

    [ID:

A small, smoothly-carved wooden rat, which is a deep, reddish brown sits in a very tight crouch with its ears pressed almost flat against its body, so that it is almost perfectly round. In its paws, beneath it, it grasps a soybean pod. Its nose and eyes gleam brightly.

  • to me one of the very fun and interesting things about being an autistic person with autistic friends is not just relating to each other but also having some traits that are polar opposites between us that are still both autism. it is such a beautiful thing to me to have that connective tissue between such different experiences. i love my brain and i love my friends’ brains and i love how different and similar we can be and i cannot understand why so many people want autism to be just one very narrow “acceptable” “quirky” experience. to me if someone has an exact opposite presentation of one autistic trait than me, I relate to that because we both experience that thing differently than allistic people do — while I will never experience the exact same thing as someone else and vice versa, there is so much more room to relate to each other when we realize we are experiencing similar things even if they look different from the outside.

unfriendly reminder that using things like low IQ and difficulty with reading comprehension as insults isn’t the gotcha you think it is. using low IQ as an insult just shows how you equate ID with moral failing/human failing, similarly with those “reading comprehension on this website sucks” jokes.

i assure you, the troll you’re trying to epically own won’t care if you make fun of their IQ or reading skills, but the person with ID or another mental disability who happens to see your “joke” is now reminded that people see them as a laughingstock and not as a real person with real feelings.

i understand that many people who make these jokes have no ill intent and aren’t really thinking about the implications of their words, so im not trying to say you’re a bad person if you make these jokes, but i am saying you should reconsider your words and how they could actually affect someone else because ableism is ingrained in everything and it takes work to root out casual ableism in your everyday actions.

Speaking of autism I must say it really irritates me how "autism" has been boiled down to just be assumed to mean "really into fandom and nothing else" and all other autistic people are either a) labelled as just ableist stereotypes who don't actually exist (ex. autistics into 'boring' things like idk car repair or 1400s weaponry or something; autistics with little to no empathy) or b) are just never ever ever mentioned except as pawns in arguments who again seem to be assumed to not actually exist, on this site and like. 95% of the people on here seem to think that that's the correct and progressive and not massively ableist way to go about things

    mental age isn't a thing.

i am not "mentally a child." i am mentally an adult, because i am in my early 20s. i do not care how childish i seem; that never gives anyone the right to say that i am mentally a child. i am an adult who doesn't want nor deserves to be compared to a child.

i do not care how many times i watch sesame street, i do not care that my reading level is low, i do not care that i need lots of things simplified to me, i do not care about all the things i do that make me seem childish. i still am an adult and deserve to be treated like one. i will never be "mentally a child."

this theory hurts people with intellectual disability and i am tired of seeing it.

“all men are complicit in sexism and benefit from misogyny” is stating the function of a system in society, not demonizing men’s interiority. twisting that statement into some sort of insidious lie about men’s character in order to refute it on the basis that some men are good is disingenuous. there have been hundreds of thousands of good, kind men who have benefitted from misogynistic systems bc they are systems, not schools of thought or beliefs
